iOS Ruby AWS and Android?

I'm no iOS developer, so sorry if this is a stupid question. I was told a particular app I'm looking to make an Android version for was built in objective-C and uses Ruby and AWS for the backend. So presumably I'd need to plug into AWS for my app, l'm just not sure how Ruby fits in...
